Lu & Du are Lu Jiachi (盧家齊) from Scattered Purgatory 破地獄 and Jon Du (杜澤威) from Forests. They play synthesizers, whether controlled by a keyboard or a tangle of wires in a modular system, creating idiosyncratic drone music. Some have said ragas capture the sound of the Indo-Gangetic plain, and something similar is going on here except for Taiwan, one of the most densely populated places in the world, is somehow eerily empty, its deserted streets haunting their sound. Pure tones ascend, twist, and fall, doors slam shut, and deep pulses buzz underneath. You can follow a narrative through the music, but the final destination always remains shrouded in fog.
